An SD-WAN (Software Defined Wide Area Network) brings a new approach to WAN management. It is a solution defined as virtual WAN architecture that enables traffic distribution across a user’s private data network or public internet network. To that end, it uses software-defined network (SDN) concepts that automatically provide the most efficient way to route traffic to and from all of a user’s branches.
Improved throughput and performance: an SD-WAN allows more efficient use of available broadband data links and traffic routing based on the actual conditions in a network, thus improving performance and reducing latency.
Connection flexibility: through an SD-WAN, you can connect your branches using different types of connection, such as MPLS, dedicated internet, broadband, and LTE/5G internet, reducing the unit cost of data transmission and increasing the availability of the entire network.
Centralised management: with centralised management, you can easily manage and configure your network infrastructure and make changes. Furthermore, all of the real-time management of your entire network is done from one place.
Enhanced security: an SD-WAN provides traffic encryption capabilities and advanced security features, such as protection against threats and secure network access.
Improved cost-effectiveness: intelligent application routing: an SD-WAN can identify specific applications and ensure that a critical application always receives the bandwidth it requires. SD-WANs can also dramatically improve response time, which is important for applications such as VoIP or video conferencing, improving overall user satisfaction.
