Homeworking, teleworking – until recently, a taboo word in many Czech companies and public administration organisations, became literally salvation during the pandemic for many offices, companies, authorities, schools, and other institutions.

Working from home

Homeworking, teleworking – until recently, a taboo word in many Czech companies and public administration organisations, became literally salvation during the pandemic for many offices, companies, authorities, schools, and other institutions. For example, according to official data of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, only 35 out of the ministry’s 830 employees were using homeworking in January 2020. By March, 480 were working from home. The number of hours worked from home went up from 1,102 in January to 42,305 in March. This shows that, in a number of cases, employees work from home even more efficiently that at the workplace, thanks to the greater comfort, peace for work, and – where the work mode allows – also the possibility to optimise worktime distribution.

Online meetings are possible

Meetings, tag-ups, huddles, scrums, team meetings, but also seminars, conferences, meeting with clients or training can be easily executed online, via the internet, without the participants having to leave their workplace or house. It is simple and efficient. And it is far cheaper and faster than having to travel to the meeting or event venue. An ideal solution for employees who are in quarantine. For example, the video-conference tool ZOOM noted a 300% increase in daily use of the service this March compared to previous months. Also the daily number of users of the Microsoft Teams service grew from an average of 12 to 44 million during that time. Judging by reports in the media, a number of cultural and social events have moved into the online space. Even the Czech government is meeting online.

Company documents accessed safely from anywhere

Employees working from home or in the field usually need to have access to your company’s documents and applications. Either they can carry their copies around with them in their laptops and tablets, with all of the attending security risks, or they can access them safely from anywhere at any time using cloud. That way, they can also work with the most up-to-date documents and applications. Long-term statistics show that data in a cloud are secured up to an order better than on company servers.

But where to get the infrastructure?

Many companies and organisations are afraid that switching into online working and into a cloud will necessarily be accompanied by a significant increase in the costs of the acquisition and implementation of all technologies and software. Nothing comes free, of course. Nevertheless, the use of IT services from České Radiokomunikace (CRA) minimises the initial investment to the lowest possible level, spreads out payments for IT over time, reduces administrative burden, and makes it possible to plan IT expenses very precisely and over an extended period.
